WHAT do we do?

All WLA efforts are geared to ensuring that licensees can continue to operate their businesses profitably without being saddled with onerous constraints. The WLA does this in four ways:

CAMPAIGNING for Change

Local policy decisions can have a significant impact on profitability. The WLA has a constructive input into policy development and makes sure that the needs of our members are taken into account.

For example, we were able to explain to the Council the impact of proposed late night and Sunday car parking charges with the result that they were dropped.

PROMOTING the Trade

There are often negative headlines about the licensed trade in Westminster. We put a lot of effort into promoting the social, cultural and economic benefits that our industry brings.

For example, we have given evidence to committees of MPs, Councillors and the GLA to explain the investment our members make in their premises and local communities.

ADVICE AND GUIDANCE to Members

Early warning of legislative change or new policy initiatives enables businesses to plan and respond accordingly. Our e-mail newsletters and website provide a regular and reliable source of information on developments, planning policy and advice on compliance. In addition our team of specialist consultants can deal with specific issues.

NETWORKING with Colleagues

We host two social events each year with keynote speakers. These allow members to meet colleagues, share ideas and discuss concerns. It is helpful to know that you are not alone or being singled out for special treatment.

I know I can rely on them to put my point of view across and defend my company’s interests but they are also a mine of information about all issues affecting the trade” - Alex Salussolia, Glendola Leisure speechmarks
