USE CLASSES - WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO MY BUSINESS?
Business Seminar 20th June 2-4pm. 5 Great College Street.

When does a restaurant become a bar? What is the definition of a A3, A4 or A5 use and where do clubs sit in this? How do you define and prove type of use for planning purposes?

The Government has recently reformed the Use Classes Order. Previously, all licensed retail use was classified as A3, now there are separate classifications for pubs and bars, cafes and restaurants and nightclubs – and restrictions on changes of use between these. This can have particular implications for operators taking on new properties or developing existing businesses to cater for customer tastes. In today’s changing market place, you need to know what you can and cannot do to your business without permission from the planners.

In order to help members, the WLA is holding an informal business seminar to discuss this topic on Wednesday 20th June from 2-4pm, hosted by RadcliffesLeBrasseur at their offices in 5 Great College Street. The keynote address will be given by Trevor Standen – WLA’s planning policy adviser - a barrister with over thirty years’ experience. Trevor has dealt with 600 planning applications and appeals, many of which are in Westminster where he personally knows many of the officers and elected members.

The event will conclude with a drinks reception, providing an opportunity to meet informally colleagues in the industry, learn more about the work of the association, raise issues of concern and network. It is an event not to be missed.

This event is free to members, but we do need to know numbers for catering purposes. Places on the seminar are strictly limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
